"Muqawama" Concert

Back

Rap / world music - Balearic Islands / Algeria

Classical Arabic, Algerian Amazigh, Berber, Spanish, English, French, Catalan... You’ll hear all these languages in the concert featuring a musical project that was initially hatched in Mallorca and involves both the leader of the first hip-hop band to sing in Arabic in the 1990s (MBS), Rabah Ourrad, and the bassist of Satellites, Púter (José M. Puigserver), who dared to rap in a musical project that builds bridges between Palma and Algiers and clearly falls within the Mediterranean quadrant made up of these two cities plus Marseilles and Oran.

Muqawama’s lyrics are positive. They encourage us to improve as a society, to build bridges between cultures and to spend more time seeking solutions than complaining, all in tunes that travel from the essence of Andalusian music with funk as the base layer and with trip-hop, afrojazz, rock and  gnaoua  tunes and music as the main ingredients. The band’s live performances feature the voice of Rabah Ourrad, Àngel Garau on drums, Púter on bass, Jaume Compte on oud and guitar and Yacine Ayad on keyboard and backing tracks.
