75th Colles de Sardana Esportiva competition

This may be a different name than the one you remember, but this is actually the oldest activity in the modern festival and has become one of the most famous events among Sardana dancers. 

It was held for the first time in 1950, so it’s 75 years old this year and welcomes guest Sardana dancing groups from the city and beyond. They all vie for the grand prize awarded by City Hall, the City of Barcelona trophy, a miniature bronze replica of the Gegant de la Ciutat. However, to win the trophy, you have to have won the contest not one year but two in a row or three alternating years. The winner of a single year gets a miniature replica of the Àliga de la Ciutat, so to win the Giant they have to have won the Eagle two years in a row or three alternating years. Because this is the 75th edition, you’ll hear a commemorative Sardana which is being premièred to celebrate it. With music by the Cobla Marinada.
