History of work. The exhibition looks at the transformation of the city from the pre-industrial period to the present day, focusing on working conditions, inequalities and social struggles.
Barcelona, City and Work tells the contemporary story of work in Barcelona and shows how it changed over the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as well as the shift from an industrial city to the services city it is today.
The home, the industrial world, construction, transport, maritime work, retail, health, education and the public administration are presented via both their material legacy and testimonials by people involved in them.
The exhibition also showcases domestic and care work, which are essential in sustaining life, and other jobs where women have predominated and which have historically been neglected.
