‘Panorama des del pont’ (A View from the Bridge)

Theatre. Sílvia Munt directs this Arthur Miller classic dissecting the pathological nucleus of the human being and showing how love can can turn into possession and desire into violence.

Panorama des del pont portrays a community of immigrants in Brooklyn where the unwritten laws of honour, loyalty and masculinity are in a fragile balance. It’s 1955, ten years after the end of World War II, and illegal immigration is a generalised reality in the USA. Eddie Carbone, a worker of Italian origin, lives with his wife and his niece, who he loves with an intensity he neither realises nor wants to recognise.

The arrival of some illegal relatives will bring out a hidden desire that becomes the detonator for tragedy: an unsustainable situation that overcomes him and leads him to betray the family and break the law of silence established among the workers, mainly immigrants, in the port of New York.
