Havaneres

Back

There's no Mercè without an evening of havaneres , even though this music may have countless nuances and accents. You’ll see that if you come to watch the two ensembles performing this year. The first one, Les Albéricas, is made up of three generations of women from the Garrotxa region of Catalonia, relatives of singer-songwriter Marià Albero, who died in 2013. Daughters and granddaughters... together they created a band that performs a Catalan musical repertoire infected with Cuban sounds. After that, Óscar Sánchez and Marbis Manzanet will perform Basilio y Gimena , both the title of the show and the names of the characters they play. They are a fictitious pair of troubadours who weave in havaneres from Havana’s early twentieth-century repertoire. They’ll sing you their story.
