Arrival of the Canigó Flame in Barcelona

Popular culture. The Canigó flame will leave Camp Nou at 5.00 pm and will arrive at Plaça de Sant Jaume at 6.00 pm, from where it will be distributed throughout the city.

The Canigó flame will be received in a solemn ceremony in Pl. Sant Jaume by the Gegants de la Ciutat [city giants], the Capgrossos Macers [big-head mace-bearing figures] and the Àliga de la Ciutat [city eagle figure].

The reception will kick off with a Cobla Sant Jordi - Ciutat de Barcelona sardana-music concert. Following the lighting of the cauldron, representatives of each neighbourhood will go up on stage to take fire from the flame which they will use to light bonfires throughout the city.

Programme:

  • 5.00 pm The Flame leaves Camp Nou and heads towards Plaça de Sant Jaume.
  • 5.00 pm Performance by the Esbart Català de Dansaires.
  • 5.30 pm Sardana gathering with the Cobla Sant Jordi-Ciutat de Barcelona
  • 5.45 pm Celebration of the arrival of the Flame in Plaça de Sant Jaume. Arrival of the Àliga, the mace-bearing bighead figures and the City Giants along Carrer de la Llibreteria, to the sound of the Cobla Sant Jordi-Ciutat de Barcelona.
  • 6.00 pm Arrival of the Canigó flame in Plaça de Sant Jaume and lighting of the cauldron. Pillar of honour of the Castellers of Barcelona.
  • 6.10 pm Dances of the Àliga, the mace-bearing bighead figures and the City Giants.
  • 6.20 pm Reading of the Flame’s message, this year written by Pere Mateu, and speeches.
  • 6.35 pm Distribution of the Flame. The teams pass by to collect fire from the Canigó, which they will use for lighting bonfires throughout the city.
  • 7.00 pm End of the act
