'Ragazzo'

Back

Theatre. A cry for life, dignity for personal stories and affirming collective memory.

Synopsis

Europe, summer 2001. Ragazzo’s city is experiencing the biggest restriction in social rights since World War Two: borders are closed, the Schengen agreement has been suspended, demonstrations and gatherings are banned in some parts of the city and people are not allowed to hang out their washing on balconies. Arrests. Identifications. Thirty thousand police patrol the streets and won’t allow access to the Red Zone, where a G8 summit is being held.

Despite all this, Ragazzo is enjoying the city in full summer swing: he and some friends recently squatted a cosy space which they have made into a home, he’s on holiday and has time to listen to music, read, cook, fall in love and more... and to take part in the World Social Forum which is also being held in the city, where half a million people are discussing what “another possible world” would be like, an alternative to globalisation which people have been imagining for some years. His fate will be shaped when he takes the decision to be part of the Column of the Disobedient, which is planning a peaceful act of civil disobedience: to breach the confinement of the Red Zone.
