‘Olympia’

Drama. An emotional journey around the birth of vocation, theatre as a meeting place and the importance of references.

Synopsis

On 2 December 1969, Paco Ibáñez - a young Valencian raised in the Basque Country, whose parents had lived in exile in France - performed a concert at the Olympia theatre in Paris which was to become an historic event and made him an acclaimed symbol of the anti-Franco left.

Seven years later, on 2 December 1976, in Barcelona’s Gràcia neighbourhood, the first show was performed at the Teatre Lliure, a project charged with an immense, unbridled energy following the death of the dictator, which rapidly became the standard for a new way of experiencing and understanding theatre.

Today, the overlapping of these two events on the same date in December 1969 and 1976 reverberates with a significant force and raises new questions. What is Olympia for each of us? Is it a place in the past or is it a dream for the future? Or is it an experience of the present? Where is this meeting place where we can share desires, dreams, references?
