'Aida'

Opera. Guissepe Verdi’s work, a visual ritual where beauty and conflict are in constant dialogue.

Synopsis

Originating from the Salzburg Festival, this work moves away from the usual bombast and puts Verdian drama in a universe of great symbolic power. Neshat, with her poetic and committed vision, transforms Aida into a narrative that dialogues with contemporary tensions: identity, exile, oppression and the fragility of power. The opera becomes a mirror for the present, where aesthetics combine with a subtle yet poignant political reading.

Often interpreted as a love story in an idealised Egypt, Aida reveals a deeper conflict: the clash between what is sacred and the established power. Aida, the enslaved Ethiopian princess, and Radamès, en Egyptian hero, are secretly in love and defy a system that condemns love as dissidence. Condemned from the outset, their story highlights a rigid structure where the law and religion are confused to justify repression.
