‘Mariona, dona de dones’

Collective memory. The exhibition pays tribute to those older women who, despite the difficulties and obstacles they have faced, have resisted, have created and have transformed society.

Through a participatory process involving older women from the Les Corts district, a symbolic image has been created of an imaginary woman with the aim of recovering the memory and experiences of a generation of brave women.

This symbolic image has been transformed into a picture at the hands of visual artist Xaro Castillo.

The name Mariona emerged as a symbol of a brave women with multiple connotations that include passion, suffering and hope. Mariona, a name presented as a figure loaded with meaning, with a sound that evokes sisterhood and strength.

The exhibition Mariona, dona de dones is showing at the exhibition space in the District head office until 30 April. You’ll be able to learn about the methodology used in the project, the artist and some of the women participants, and watch various audiovisual interviews.
