Exposició "Les Sorres X. Un vaixell medieval"

Back

Presentation of the medieval vessel Les Sorres X, following the completion of the recovery, conservation and musealisation work on this boat discovered in Castelldefels in 1990 during the construction of the Olympic Canal, and dated to the second half of the 14th century. It is one of the very few medieval cargo boats preserved in the Mediterranean, offering a unique opportunity for academic study and public dissemination of coastal navigation from that period.

After its discovery, the Centre d’Arqueologia Subaquàtica de Catalunya of the Generalitat de Catalunya undertook the dismantling, restoration and conservation of the vessel. Since 2011, it has been under the care of the Museu Marítim de Barcelona. From 2015 onwards, it has undergone the conservation and consolidation work required for its musealisation. Research has shown that the forms of Mediterranean vessels have remained largely unchanged over the centuries, as demonstrated by the similarity between this medieval boat and later vessels from the 20th century.
