‘Tchaikovsky’s “Pathétique” symphony’

Classical music. The Franz Schubert Filharmonia, under Tomàs Grau, opens its new season.

On Sunday 19 October, the Palau de la Música Catalana will host the much-anticipated performance of Piotr Ilitx Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 74, “Pathétique” . Considered by the composer to be his most sincere and personal work, this symphony stands as a musical testament of drama, nostalgia and overwhelming emotion, culminating in the deeply moving Adagio lamentoso finale.

Bringing this Romantic masterpiece to life on the Modernista stage of the Palau will be the Franz Schubert Filharmonia, conducted by Maestro Tomàs Grau.

Before the celebrated symphony, audiences will enjoy a first-rate début: virtuoso violinist Paul Huang, acclaimed for his hypnotic tone, will make his first Palau appearance performing Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Concerto for violin and orchestra, Op. 35. With its lush melodies and cinematic Romanticism, the piece reflects Korngold’s years as a Hollywood film composer.
