‘Small Stories, Great Women’

Back

Storytelling. A free programme of events for discovering the stories of women linked to the fields of science, art and history in seven of Barcelona's museums.

To commemorate International Women's Day, the programme of events Small Stories, Great Women is taking place. Through a dramatised story, we will discover a female figure linked to the history, collections or heritage of each of the seven participating museums.

Programme:

  • Saturday 1 March, 5.00 pm at the Barcelona Maritime Museum: Andrea Comaposada is a biologist and dedicates all her efforts to disseminating the marine environment through leisure, educational and socio-cultural activities.
  • Sunday 2 March, 12.00 noon, at the Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona: Blanca Martí is a scientific illustrator and naturalist by vocation. As an illustrator, she has produced posters for national parks, books and naturalist and scientific associations.
  • Sunday, 9 March, 12.00 noon at the Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya (MAC): The Dama de les Muntanyes (Lady of the Mountains) is, as far as we know, the first “Catalan” woman with power within her community. She lived more than 3,500 years ago and was discovered in the municipality of Coll de Nargó by hikers.
  • Saturday, 15 March, 5.00 pm, at the Museu d’Història de Catalunya (MHC): Antonia La Singla was a 'bailaora' who revolutionised the world of flamenco at just 17 years of age. She was born deaf, in the neighbourhood of Somorrostro, and learned to dance flamenco without hearing the music.
  • Sunday, 16 March, 12.00 noon, at the Museu d’Esplugues de Llobregat: Anne Laure Cano is a French ceramicist. After years of working in cultural centres, she decided to follow her creative vocation and dedicated herself fully to creative ceramics.
  • Saturday 22 March, 5.00 pm, at the Olympic and sports Museum: Fiona Pinar Batalla is a young athlete who set out to achieve great sporting feats after suffering a serious accident in which she lost a leg.
  • Sunday 23 March, 12.00 noon, at the Catalan National Art Museum (MNAC): Teresa Lanceta Aragonés is an artist who has conducted research into popular textile art in Morocco, the work carried out by women in the tobacco industry and the Spanish catifa, or fine rugs, of the 15th century.

The activity is free of charge and you need to visit the museum websites to book a place in advance.
