Maria Tumarkin and Cristina Garcia Molina: ‘Exploring Memory’

Report. A debate on how to approach from the present the narratives of the past through memory, trauma and loss.

The writer and cultural historian Maria Tumarkin reflects on how to approach from the present the narratives of the past on the occasion of the publication of the essay Axiomático.

Suicide, war, language, generational pain and friendship are some of the issues Tumarkin explores through thought, narrative and dialogue. Through the questioning of five axioms, the author proposes a rethink of the processes of construction of individual and collective memory and the paths through which we elaborate the past. In doing so, she reveals the hidden tensions of this process and contributes to widening the boundaries of reflection on these issues.

In this session, Tumarkin approaches this debate accompanied by Cristina Garcia Molina, a writer and professor who in her latest publication, Els irredempts, has also reflected on collective memory and the way we think about the past.

Maria Tumarkin, escriptora i historiadora cultural, reflexiona amb l'escriptora i professora Cristina Garcia Molina sobre com abordar des del present les narratives del passat a través de la memòria, el trauma i la pèrdua, amb motiu de la publicació de l'assaig Axiomático (minúscula, 2025).

El suïcidi, la guerra, el llenguatge, el dolor generacional i l'amistat són alguns dels assumptes que Tumarkin explora des del pensament, la narració i el diàleg. A través del qüestionament de cinc axiomes, l'autora proposa repensar els processos de construcció de la memòria individual i col·lectiva i els camins a través dels quals elaborem el passat. En fer-ho, revela les tensions ocultes d'aquest procés i contribueix a eixamplar els límits de la reflexió sobre aquestes qüestions.

En aquesta sessió, Tumarkin aborda aquest debat acompanyada de Cristina Garcia Molina, escriptora i professora que, en la seva darrera publicació, Els irredempts (LaBreu, 2023), ha reflexionat també sobre la memòria col·lectiva i la manera amb què pensem i vivim el passat.
