The Christmas holidays are approaching and with them, a fervour for living new experiences, adventures and emotions. Barcelona has witnessed a universe of innovations that have changed the world. If you are restless and imaginative, these workshops bursting with creativity are perfect for you. Do you dare to look at this incredible city from the perspective of inventions, science and heritage?

Workshops:

Monday 22 December. Science and Nature  (El Born)

Learn to identify and classify species of flora and fauna applying practices used since modern times and create your own collage artwork using plant elements.  

Tuesday 23 December. Dioramas and the Nativity Scene from the 1700s  (El Born)

Investigate what houses looked like in the 1700s and the occupations of Barcelona's residents, creating your own diorama with a scene from the period. 

Tuesday 23 December. Roman water  (Plaça del Rei)

Discover what it was like to live in Roman Barcelona through its waterways, learning about and recreating the great innovations of the time, such as aqueducts and sewage systems. Archaeology, Roman-era games and maps will be our guides on this journey into Barcelona's Roman past. 

Wednesday 24 December. The telescope and exploring the universe  (El Born)

Starting with the curious story of the Christmas comet of 1705, discover the technical innovations of the modern era linked to cosmic phenomena; participate in an escape room around the site  ; and create your own personalised planisphere. 

Monday 29 December. Cartography and the art of illustrating the world  (El Born)

Discover how the world has been represented through cartography and create your own map of the El Born archaeological site. 

Tuesday 30 December. Chocolates and new eating habits  (El Born)

Identify the new foods introduced into Europe during the modern era, such as cocoa, and make your own chocolate lollipops. 

Tuesday 30 December. Gothic architecture (Plaça del Rei)

Travel into the past to discover how the image of Barcelona changed 700 years ago. The large buildings built in the new fashion of the time, the Gothic style, which changed the city forever. Through games, paintings, objects and buildings from the medieval era, learn all about the secrets of this new architecture. 

Wednesday 31 December. The colour revolution: dresses and printing  (El Born)

Learn about the colourful fashions in the clothing worn in Barcelona in the 1700s and make your own printed fabrics, the famous indianas (printed calico textiles). 

Friday 2 January. The discovery of leisure: the new games of the modern era  (El Born)

While awaiting the arrival of the Three Kings, learn about the games that were all the rage in Barcelona in the 1700s, such as pelota and palamall, which would ultimately give rise to sports like golf, croquet or tennis.
