Show ‘Sirens and Robots,' with Tarta Relena and Joan Llort

Back

Tarta Relena, one of today's most promising musical duos, join forces with oceanographer Joan Llort to explore the sounds of the ocean, and imagine what the songs of the mermaids would be like.

What would the song that seduced Odysseus and his men have been like? What made it so irresistible? Mermaids, one of the world's most pervasive myths found across all cultures, are still very much a part of the popular imagination today. Seen sometimes as dangerous monsters, sometimes as innocent sea creatures, mermaids have always had the power to fascinate. But, in reality, we know very little about what their song might have been like, and where that irresistible attraction came from.

To unravel the mystery, the singers who make up the duo Tarta Relena have set out to investigate the sounds that might be able to create this power. They do so in the company of oceanographer Joan Llort, who investigates the real sounds of the Mediterranean with robots that roam the sea, recording everything that happens on the seabed and on the surface of the water. The result is an unexpected and poetic show that invites you to immerse yourself in the fascinating power of the sounds of the ocean.

The show will be presented as part of the Biennial of Thought 2024, and will include a sound installation and a concert at which the musical duo will be presenting their new album to the Barcelona public.
