Barcelona Nord bus station

Back

The station is one of the city’s main hubs, where coaches with both national and international destinations stop every day.

In the neighbourhood of Fort Pienc, in Eixample, you will find Barcelona Nord bus station.

The original building dates back to the year 1861 and is Neoclassical in style. It was designed by Pere Andrés and the main feature that has been preserved is the south façade, which looks out onto the park. The magnificent glazed roof, as well as the façades on Carrer de Nàpols and Carrer de Sardenya, are the work of Demetri Ribes and these were added later, in 1910. What really stands out is the glass and ironwork, used a lot at that time in public buildings such as stations and markets.

In 1972, the old train station belonging to the North of Spain Railway Company closed and was converted into today’s bus station. A Guàrdia Urbana police barracks was also located there, along with a municipal gym where, in 1992, the Olympic table-tennis tournament was held.
