'El meu germà, Bernard'

Back

Theatre. A monologue based on a reading of 'Lettres' by Bernard-Marie Koltès.

Synopsis

El meu germà, Bernard is intended as a poetic, visual and aural multidisciplinary tribute to the figure of the playwright Bernard-Marie Koltès, who met an early death through AIDS in 1989, just when he was becoming a key figure in European dramaturgy. It is also intended as a love song for my brother, and for all brothers. For mothers, carers and friends. We establish a dialogue between the personal life of Koltès, his work and a world where we can explore three fundamental premises: LONELINESS, love of THE OTHER and THE BEAUTY of the unclassified.

I didn’t read any page after another, those weeks, just words on their own, in French. Or the first letter over and over again, peut-être. Bernard was 8 years old. It’s absurd. Yet here we are. And I want to tell you the story of some brothers who lost some other brothers. And what happened, long before.
