Grec'25: ‘Decadence’

Theatre. Carles Martínez and Míriam Alamany play a pair of lovers in this direct, provocative work play.

Synopsis

Helen and Steven are a pair of wealthy lovers who give in to constant pleasure: from opera to sex and from caviar to alcohol. Not even their pathetic spouses, who may be as bourgeois as they are, but aren’t quite the same, can spoil their fun. Biting, irreverent, hypercritical and sharp, this work by Berkoff (who, incidentally, co-starred with Joan Collins in the film adaptation) is a scathing indictment of the well-off and frivolous, of the incorrigibly rich and vapid.

Vice, immorality and decadence aplenty. That’s what’s in store in a scathing text full of dark humour that invites us to take a look at the lives of some of the people sustaining today’s neo-conservatism.
