‘Coses que només saps quan estàs morta’ (Things you only know when you’re dead)

Theatre. A journey through the life of Irene Polo, the most important reporter of the Second Republic in Barcelona.

Synopsis

This is the forgotten story of Irene Polo, a courageous and determined lesbian journalist who shone as a reporter in the democratic city of the 1930s.

In the newspapers of her day Polo described the people on the street, the role of the unions, the leap from silent movies to "talkies" and the twists and turns of Catalan politics.

In January 1936, when she was managing the editorial staff of the newspaper Última Hora at the tender age of 28, she gave it all up. In a matter of weeks she embarked on a tour of Latin America as the personal secretary of the actress Margarida Xirgu, a trip that became a second life. In a matter of months she became a republican exile. Once the tour was over and her family of women had regrouped, she lived for a few years in Buenos Aires, where she died in 1942.

Since that day, forgotten in the Chacarita cemetery, she has tried to tell her story.
