‘Brahms - Symphony No. 2’

Classical music. Johannes Brahms’ widely popular symphony featuring Lawrence Power and Matthias Pintscher.

On Saturday 18 October and Sunday 19 October, L’Auditori de Barcelona will host one of the most highly anticipated concerts of the season, featuring the Barcelona Symphony and Catalan National Orchestra (OBC): Brahms - Symphony No. 2. Under the baton of renowned German conductor Matthias Pintscher, the OBC will present a programme that blends lush Romanticism with contemporary creation.

At its heart is Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73, often called the “Pastoral” for its lyrical, luminous character and its broad, nature-inspired phrasing. The symphony is beloved for its unquestionable beauty and emotional intensity.

As a complement, the programme will also feature the Spanish première of Magnus Lindberg’s Viola Concerto (2023–2024), a recent work that highlights the expressive range and magnetic presence of the viola, performed by acclaimed soloist Lawrence Power.
