‘Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony

Back

Classical Music. The OBC premieres ‘Simfonia efímera’ by José Río-Pareja, a piece inspired by anonymous tones and ancestral melodies.

Attending the global première of a work is something extraordinary. Composer José Río-Pareja has been singled out for his “sensitivity and exquisite language of structural forms that are almost impossible to materialise”, and from the very beginning, his Sinfonía efímera promises a journey through original soundscapes.

Much better known is Robert Schumann’s Cello Concerto, a particularly lyrical piece, with an expressive solo part whose uncompromising personality dominates throughout the three movements.

The name Pastoral reflects the programmatic character of Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony. The symphony explores nature from its most bucolic and amorous side, celebrated with country dances, to the threat of the storm. The final movement – one of the most moving ever composed – is in a more conciliatory mood, expressing gratitude for the possibility of life.
