‘Rodoreda, contemporània’

Back

Culture. A series of conversations exploring the resonance of Mercè Rodoreda’s writing in contemporary creative practice and thought.

Mercè Rodoreda is an author of great contemporary relevance, as shown by the way her writing continues to engage and inspire creators from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds. Many people feel deeply marked by her work, connected across time through her poetics and her enigmas.

Why is it that today her texts seem to speak to us so directly? What captivates new readers as they encounter for the first time the magic of her novels and short stories?

At a time when a dark past insists on returning with its burden of silence and violence, Rodoreda’s literature offers us insights and compels us to confront what so often remains in the shadows: the disturbing force of desire, the ambivalence of human experience, the integration of the human within nature, and violence and cruelty as undercurrents that eat away at collective life.

Rodoreda’s literary universe is fertile ground where creators from very different backgrounds find inspiration and dialogue. Each conversation in this series takes up one of these reverberations and engages in dialogue with her literature as a space for further thought and creation.
