‘MNAC in transformation: Thinking about the museum, imagining futures’. Conversation series

Museums. The series invites us to reflect collectively on what museums of the future should look like as the MNAC moves forward with its expansion and transformation.

El Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya is launching the public programme MNAC in transformation, a space for collective reflection and debate to share information about the Museum's expansion process and make it more transparent. As well as expanding its premises, the project will strengthen its public role and open up new ways of engaging with the public.

The conversation series Thinking about the museum, imagining futures will take a critical look at new models for museums, the role of national museums in a globalised world, architecture as a driver of institutional transformation, governance and accountability, innovation in cultural management, new technologies, emerging audiences, sustainability and the contribution of culture to contemporary urban and social challenges.

On Saturday 24 October and Thursday 19 November, some of the most influential museum directors and architects on today's cultural scene will take part. They are involved in major cultural and architectural projects and have direct experience of transformation processes comparable to the one facing the National Museum.
