Albertina Carri

Back

Cinema. Carri will be visiting the Filmoteca to present some of her films, such as the advance première of her latest production, ‘¡Caigan las rosas blancas!', on Tuesday, 8 April.

Albertina Carri is a fundamental figure in new Argentinian film. Her diverse and protean cinema embraces all sorts of expressive techniques and narrative resources and stands out for its audacious and provocative style, addressing taboo topics from a critical and subversive perspective.

She made a name for herself on the international scene in 2003 with Los rubios, a film questioning the veracity of records and forms of historical representation, reconstructing her own personal history, shaped by the disappearance of her parents during the last Argentinian dictatorship.

This personal tragedy has had a strong influence on her artistic production, which she uses to explore the intersection between individual experience and collective memory, identity and social justice.

Her raw and transgressive treatment of violence, sexuality and gender are other constants in a filmography constructed with fury and which challenges power structures and hegemonic and patriarchal discourses to open the way for a political perspective of feminism and sexual dissidence.

The Filmoteca de Catalunya presents a comprehensive retrospective of her films, from 8 to 25 April.
